Liberal Patriots!

Yes, that's what I said, Liberal Patriot. The term is not an oxymoron!! I am so sick of surfing blogs and coming across conservatives who denigrate liberal democrats for "not serving their country" and not being truly patriotic therefore. I'm sure you've all heard why you shouldn't "assume" stuff about people, that's right cause it makes an Ass out of you. Where do these people come up with their statistics that say liberals don't ever serve in the military? What really gets me is that more than half of the conservatives tossing around this idea and calling liberals pansys etc., haven't served themselves.

Anyone whose read my past posts already knows why this conservative accusation really pisses me off, because I did serve (during the first Gulf War), my Dad and Uncle served in Vietnam-and were both career Army men (20 yrs), and my maternal grandfather served in World War 1. My family has a long history of being both liberal democrats AND serving our country. I don't think were unusual. I got to know a lot of great people during my stint in the Army, and suprise, suprise they were not all conservatives. Their are tons of democrats out there who are as patriotic and willing to serve their nation as any conservative. So my suggestion is this--before you start tossing stones and calling people names, such as chicken****, pu**y, and unpatriotic, why don't You make yourself useful and go sign up to fight for this President (you're so proud of) and this country you're so sure belongs rightfully to "Only" you patriotic conservatives.

You are correct 100% correct Leo. Being Liberal does not at all make someone un-patriotic. I not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but I have no doubt she is Patriotic and loves this country. There and many ways to serve this country with our joining the Military. I am liberal on many issues as well. But Conservatives can't understand how people like Cindy Sheehan claim to support the troops and Love America and say the things she says, Liberals stick up for her and praise her, Yeah she has the "right", but does staying this stuff make you a Patriotic America (not to mention its not true, is Bush really a Nazi and Hitler…) Is Pat Robertson blaming 9/11 on Gay people make he a good American... hell no, anyone who supports that type of thought is not a good person.....
Sheehan:
(1) She calls the president a murder and the USA is an "imperialistic" country.
(2) "We are not waging a war on terror in this country. We’re waging a war of terror. The biggest terrorist in the world is George W. Bush!"
3)"If George Bush believes his rhetoric and his bullshit, that this is a war for freedom and democracy, that he is spreading freedom and democracy, does he think every person he kills makes Iraq more free?"
4)"If he thinks that it’s so important for Iraq to have a U.S.-imposed sense of freedom and democracy, then he needs to sign up his two little party-animal girls. They need to go to this war." "We want our country back and, if we have to impeach everybody from George Bush down to the person who picks up dog shit in Washington, we will impeach all those people."
(5) "9/11 was Pearl Harbor for the neo-conservatives’ agenda". The U.S. government a "morally repugnant system.". "We began the killing as soon as we stepped foot on these shores and the killing has gone on unabated for over 200 years".
6) "George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power."
7) She calls the insurgents in Iraq “freedom fighters”, which is strange; she is saying the people who killed her son were Good people.

How can anyone say they support the troops and Love America by saying these sort of things. The U.S. government a "morally repugnant system…wow, that is so bad. Don’t you agree?? And it’s the Liberals standing next to her...

This is a comment for James on my Blog I could not have said it any better: The unique calling of a soldier however is that he puts his life in grave danger for other people. He is prepared to die to protect the freedoms we take for granted; including the freedom to voice opposition to what they are doing. That's a pretty amazing vocation. This on top of the fact that most of the soldiers have made this monumental decision at a very young age. It requires a great deal of maturity to realize that there are things worth fighting for, or believing in, even at the cost of your life. It is, at the deepest level, a very self-less act. That is what makes a soldier's contribution so unique and worthy of our admiration.

Of course you can be 100% against this war and feel it’s not worth it., but why can;t Liberals do it respectfully, how would you feel when you were in the Fist Gulf war and people were saying the this stuff back home , USA is an "imperialistic" country….I mean it’s the Soldiers Fighting. Are the Troops killing innocent Iraqi babies and children??, Are the insurgents in Iraq “freedom fights”, like the Minute men of the Revolutionary War… Is OK for them to be killing American’s….

Jeff thanks for the comment. I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you with my response, because I don't have a major opinion on Cindy Sheehan. The reason I don't have much of an opinion on her is I don't pay a lot of attention to every word that comes out of any one particular American citizens mouth. I will say this, I think she's a grieving Mother and I can't begin to understand the pain losing a child would cause someone. I lost my Mother and my Aunt six months ago-both to natural causes and I have trouble even thinking about it cause it's that painful. I imagine losing a child, especially in a violent way would be almost unbearable. Does that mean that I support or agree with everything Mrs. Sheehan says--no not necessarily. I have not heard her make the comments that are being attributed to her by the conservatives in this nation. If she did say the things you're claiming then, no I would not agree with most of those comments. Here's the thing though--what I don't understand is why the Republicans/conservatives are allowing themselves to be drawn into a battle with a grieving Mother. If she's saying wacko things then why not take the high ground and shake your heads and offer your condolences for her loss, and put her and her statements back in perspective. In other words to me the smart move for conservatives would be to show sympathy for Cindy Sheehan and if you think her ideas are wacko, say that, but in a kind way. I personally think conservatives aren't doing themselves any favors by viciously attacking a woman whose son fought and died for the country-no matter what her views/opinions are. Every time I hear conservatives calling her names I just think--how sad that their attacking a poor grieving mother, and how pathetic it is that you guys feel the need to take her sooo seriously-and try and rip her to shreds. I personally don't take everything this woman says like it's coming from some reknown expert on war, or policy. The only other comment I have on your post is to say it's a major generalization to say, "why can't liberals do it respectfully", as if any one person or their comments is representitive of all liberals. Why can't you conservatives stop making generalizations about all liberals?!--lol (just trying to make my point)
