GOP Hopefuls Outspending Democrats So Far

The top Republican presidential candidates spent more than their Democratic counterparts in the first six months of the year, even though the Republican contenders raised less money, the latest campaign-finance reports show.

Republicans Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain outspent Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards by more than $20 million, a USA TODAY analysis found. The three Republicans lag the top Democrats in total receipts by $40 million and have $61 million less in the bank.

The Republicans "are running Cadillac campaigns," said Michael McDonald, a political scientist at George Mason University in Virginia. He cautioned that they will "have to re-engineer their campaigns and downsize to a more efficient vehicle" if they are to compete effectively when more than 20 states hold primaries or caucuses Feb. 5.

It looks like the GOP's latest batch of wannabee leaders, is just as "fiscally" conservative as good ole' George W.!! I'm thinking that if their campaigns have to sign up for some sort of government assistance (welfare) down the road, they may be in trouble-lmao.

McCain already has to count his pennies. If they can't handle their campaign money, that says a lot about their management style.

!ll because they spent more on campaigns means nothing about their policies on fiscal conservatism. Thats a correlation you can't make. They just know they have to spend alot so that a Dem doesnt take over and run this country into the ground... :)

Although you're right, I would like to see some true republicans that are fiscally conservative and actually ::gasp:: believe in small government!

Pop, thanks for the support.
Pomo, for the most part I was simply making fun of them, but I do think that you can actually tell a bit about someones general attitude towards money, by how they spend it (that's not much of a stretch!-lol). As for the dems running the country into the ground, that's rich (pun intended)lmao. How will they do that, maybe start an unnecessary war, spends billions losing it, allow an American city and its people to live in total devestation without any help, create more terrorists than they can kill, lie to the american public on an everyday basis, dismantle the Constitution, plunge the country further into debt than it's ever been with a record deficit, etc.? Nah, they'll have to come up with some new ideas since the republicans and Bush have already succeeded so well with all the aforementioned! Thanks for the comment.

I think GOP consultants are ripping off GOP candidates just like GOP politicians are ripping off the country.

GOP ethics are tearing apart the party. It's wonderful.

Libhom, well you can be certain that anyone who's a hardcore GOP'ophile has money/greed at the root of their beliefs, interests and desires. Thanks for your thoughts.
