"Sicko"
I went to see “Sicko” last night and it didn’t disappoint. This is a documentary, that I think, every American should see, though I’ll warn you, be prepared to leave the theater thoroughly agitated and pissed off. Moore does a wonderful job exposing the pure corporate and political greed and propaganda that allows the U.S., one of the richest nations on earth, to continue with a healthcare system that is not only broken but complicit in the fleecing, maiming and even the deaths of many Americans.
Contrary to what you’ll hear from the neocons who love to criticize Moore without ever having seen his films, “Sicko” visits and examines the healthcare systems in not just Cuba, but also Canada, England and France and let me tell you it’s an eye opening experience. You come away bewildered, wondering how the supposed “best” country in the world could get it so wrong, while these other nations have gotten it so right. I don’t want to ruin it for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, so suffice to say “Sicko” is a wonderful, important work that will leave you with the desire to either take to the streets of America in protest of our current system, or take to the road north in the hope of gaining citizenship in Canada.

Thats funny I saw the movie last night too!
I came away from it much like you pissed off, and sad to know that my neighbors friends, or family may be sick, hurt, or worse dying and not be able to get the care that they need. I really believe that anybody regardless of income or a little plastic card from an insurance company, should be able to seek and receive they care that they need to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
So many other societies get this issue right, and we as a country fail miserably at it, and should be ashamed of ourselves. So what did I do about this, bitch on a blog... well yes I did, but I also emailed & faxed my senate and house reps today and told them my opinion on health care for all, and asked them to represent my views when legislating health care(if you didn't know thats what your reps are supposed to do, be the voice of their constituents!)
Everybody has a voice use yours!
I will see it for sure when it gets to my area. I did see Moore on Larry King last week. He's great at what he does.
Jenn, good for you for taking action! I agree that everyone contacting their congressman and reps. is extemely important and necessary if we ever hope to have any real change in this country. Thanks for the input.
PoP, I hope you get to see it soon. Moore is fantastic at what he does. Thanks for commenting.
I'll definitely check out the movie. It's funny how the Right is so misinformed about Moore and his movies. Their disinformation campaign against Moore is in full swing. He has the pharmaceutical and insurance industries on the defensive, and that's what we need.
Who Hijacked Our Country
It's a very important film to see no matter what you think of Moore.
I saw it last week or so, the whole thing was posted on google and 9rules notes had a copy of it and I got to see it all before it was removed.
I'll be seeing it soon. As a person who considers himself slightly to the right, I guess it's weird that I like Moore, even though I take everything in his movies with a grain of salt.
Even if I don't happen to agree with everything he says, at least I know it'll be entertaining, as all Moore's movies are.
Glad you liked it, Leo.
David, yeah his movies are always entertaining as he has a good sense of humor. It's good to know that someone slightly to the right is open minded enough to at least see his work. Thanks for the comment.
Tom, yeah the right's propaganda wing is a wonder to behold. I'm glad you'll be seeing the movie as it is thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile. Thanks for dropping by.
Cooper, I agree completely! Thanks for your input.
This is what I think of SiCKO
As for your post I suggest you do a little more research before going on a crusade to socialize medicine in the U.S. Maybe visit Cuba yourself to see how great the medicine there is. Moore is an artist, not a great one but an artist who is very skilled in performance and deception. Even if he is on a great cause his habit of lies and deceit can do nothing but harm to the issue in the long run. Moore has found a nitch that has made him very rich. He complains about fat rich white men, capitalism, America and Americans. Michael Moore seems to truly hate America. Which is kinda odd when you consider how much money he makes off the Liberals, democrats, socialists and Bush Haters.
Mal., while I have never been to Cuba I have been to England, France and Canada which all have socialized healthcare. I was also raised an army brat, and guess what form the U.S. military's healthcare system takes? It's a socialized system. You've made absolutely no argument against socializing the U.S. system, other than, Moore is rich and you obviously don't like him. When you have done your research and have an actual argument to make on the subject, get back to me. (maybe you could actually see the movie first) By the way you may want to start railing against our firemen and policemen as well, since the U.S. uses socialized systems for both. Thanks for the comment.
